Guide to Vitamins in Skincare | Bella GLOW
At Bella GLOW, we use multiple vitamins in our products including A, B3, C, and E. Explore the different types of vitamins for your skin. Learn about these vitamins and what they do so you can choose the best products for your skin type.
Vitamins and What They Do
We have always been told to take our vitamins, but what about topical application?
We get a ton of vitamins through our diet, and it is super important to be sure you are getting most of your nutrients through food. Luckily, you can get even more (and quicker) benefits by adding in topical application.
When vitamins are applied directly to your skin, the outer layer (epidermis) is able to absorb the vitamins and allow your skin to produce results very quickly. In skincare, you will typically see products containing Vitamins A, B3 & B5, C, E and K. At Bella GLOW, we focus on A, B3, C and E.
What Does Vitamin A Do To Our Skin?
Vitamin A is amazing for so many different skin problems. It can be used to help stabilize oil production for acne prone skin, diminish skin pigmentation left behind from dark spots, acne scars, etc., and helps with promoting collagen and skin elasticity.
One of our favorite benefits from vitamin A is that it can prevent breakouts and speed up the process of healing, so if you have noticed your skin being a little problematic lately and stuck in the cycle of breaking out and trying to get rid of the damage left behind, try our Smooth & Clear Face Wash both day and night, and use our REVIVE Night Cream before bed. These are both packed with vitamin A and other goodies that will definitely help.
Where Does Vitamin A Come From?
Vitamin A can be found in two forms, retinoids and carotenoids. Retinoids are sourced from animals, so at SIMPURE, we do not use this form. Carotenoids are sourced from plants and include beta-carotenoids, which our body turns into vitamin A. You can naturally find Vitamin A in leafy greens, yellow and orange veggies, tomatoes, red bell peppers, and so much more.
Vitamin B3
One of our best sellers is our REVIVE B3+HA Facial Serum, B3 is also known as niacinamide and is amazing for blocking environmental pollutants from harming your skin. It also helps take care of redness and blotchiness, shrink pores, treat acne and hyperpigmentation,
Vitamin B3 can naturally be found in eggs, green vegetables, beans, and milk. For skin concerns, it is best to apply B3 topically. We would recommend using our B3+HA Serum daily, before your moisturizer and after cleansing and toning.
Vitamin C vs Vitamin E
There are actually quite a few major differences in these powerhouse vitamins.
Vitamin C is water soluble and is essential for the upkeep of healthy connective tissues, and acts as an antioxidant, collagen booster, and prevents dry skin, fine lines and wrinkles.
Vitamin E is fat soluble, contributes to red cell production while protecting the cell membrane from harmful species within the oxygen, and slows down premature aging.
Both of these vitamins are essential nutrients that our bodies need, but we are unable to naturally synthesize. When vitamins C and E are combined, they create an antiaging superpower, and vitamin E will help stabilize vitamin C.
In addition to topical application, vitamins C can be found naturally in citrus fruits and green vegetables, and vitamin E lives in egg yolks and leafy vegetables. Our favorite products that contain high levels of these vitamins are our Vitamin C Toner, Vitamin C Moisturizer, and Pure Vitamin E Oil. By the product names, you can be sure you're using the right stuff.
Sunburn Cure?
Vitamin C is amazing at targeting free radicals, meaning it repairs currently damaged cells, restrains UVB-induced inflammation (aka sunburn) and limits sun damage from exposure to UV rays. This means that not only can vitamin C prevent sun damage, it can actually help reverse it.
When it comes to UV rays, there are two primary types that you need to worry about: UVA, which penetrate the deep layers of your skin to cause aging and wrinkles; UVB rays hit the top layer of the skin and lead to sunburns and, over time exposure to both could lead to skin cancer. So in order to ensure you're completely protected, you want to use a product that will work against both. We recommend our Weightless Sunscreen SPF50. Unlike sunscreen, vitamin C does not reflect or absorb UVA or UVB light, so that does not mean you should skip out on your sunscreen. A perfect combo would be using our Vitamin C moisturizer and then applying your Weightless Sunscreen right on top.
When to Use Vitamins in Your Routine
We recommend using your vitamin B3 and vitamin C products in the morning so they can help fight off any environmental pollutants in the air that can cause damage to your skin, as well as fighting against sun damage.
Use vitamin A at night to allow for the skin to absorb it. We recommend starting with 2-3 uses per week, as vitamin A can be powerful and potentially cause irritation if your skin is sensitive or not used to it, and then working your way up to every other night, and finally nightly use.
Vitamin E is great when combined with vitamin C. Our vitamin C based products already contain vitamin E, so if you want an extra boost, we recommend using our vitamin E oil before or after your moisturizer for maximum benefits. You can also use your oil as a heavy face mask. Your skin will drink up the amount that it needs and regulate its oil production, leaving you with glowing skin.
